It seems to me us Europeans like the Malinois,Dutch Herder or GSD as our PP dogs while you guys in the Americas seem to like the heavier bull type breeds, wonder why?

If you took a pole I think you would be dead wrong about your assumption buy a margin greater than 20-80.
That margin would prolly flip flop if you based it solely on a large urban city many who live in the city don't have working knowledge of other breeds. Hell most prolly don't even know what a Dutchie or a Mali are.
I think most people in the US have no idea what makes a PD. So they tend to go for strongly built intimidating dogs.
That aside the bull breeds are a long standing tradition in the US, they are used for hunting and farm work. There are many of them and some lines are capable of man work. I wouldn't go to Europe to find a good AB and I don't expect that a European would go to the US to look for a GSD. The herders come to bitework from herding and the bulldogs from catching. If anything the bulldog is all about the bite What I like about the bull breeds is that the good ones are very hard in terms of ability to take punishment in a fight,. They can be like that without rank issues with the handler / family and generally be friendly outgoing dogs. They can possess a raw explosive aggression in response to a challenge that is difficult to find elsewhere.

I suspect the average dog owner in the UK couldn’t recognize a Mali and let alone a Dutchie. In fact, I still get people asking if my sable GSD is a cross breed, a husky mix etc. GSDs are much more popular than Malis for schutzhund, maybe 15:1, not sure about police and security but I think GSDs are still in the vast majority. There seem to be very few dutchies in this country, only a very small handful of enthusiasts have them. I've read the Dutchie is a Mali with an off switch, never ever seen one though, shame.
In the UK, dogos, tosas, pit bulls and filas are banned breeds. But the authorities have the right a sieze a dog that resembles those breeds if they are suspicious.
“Average” law abiding dog owners don’t seem to want their dogs for protection, there seems to be very little appetite for PPDs, in general. There seems to be an unspoken societal expectation that all dogs must be friendly to everybody at all times eg. strangers have a right to come up and pet your dog etc. Inner cities tend to have youths who own pit crosses, American bulldogs, rotts, presas, bullie crosses, dogue crosses to enhance their tough guy image.
The dog I am most impressed by/worried about is a boerboel. They seem to combine extreme power with amazing athleticism. Seen photos of a 90kg example clearing 1m fences easily.

Very similar to the US. I find that the average eastern European is more dog savvy than the north American. They know dogs can be aggressive and respect them. The same with latinos in the US come to think about it.

There's more hype to these dogs than anything else. I will vouch for the agility though, they can move lightning quick when necessary. But in this respect they are not different than a good neo (not the very big boned ones with extreme wrinkles).
