hi everyone, ive picked up my new dog! (pics to follow) she is 8 months old and so far a brilliant dog.
i dont know a lot about her background (socialization etc) so im looking for some training exercises to do with her.
at this stage i am not paticuarly interested in bitework but i would like her to alert on command.
here is what im after:
1) at the moment she will alert/bark at people passing by the fence and house and when in the car.i would like to change this so that it is only when people are acting suspicious or when i give the command... any ideas for scenarios/exercises to train this.
2) should i do some intensive work on socialization with strangers, dogs, environments etc before i look at work for guarding etc? if so does anyone have any proven exercises or things to do with her that you've done with your dogs?
3)ive been working on engagement, sit down and stand (from Michael Ellis dvd) shes good at this when in the house but not out and about. any suggestions?
also, im keeping a diary of things iv done, how she responded etc which i think would be good to then pass on to new dog owners.
