I agree with David. I prefer to have a dog that wants to do his job, and all I have to do is put control on it and make it understand when he shouldn't, and tolerate strangers because I say so. This kind of dog when stable is not a "hair trigger".
no kids, wife is ready willing and able to utter a command,

and as i said all these preferences are need based, the odds of home invasion is very low in the town i live in, and this low risk must be balanced against the liability of a visitor being bit

so i will be happy if he is on the friendly side to visitors (after all his pp training), but has the ability to light up when directed to, just my opinion

There are different types and styles of protection, not everyone has the same needs, I sounds like you may have just what you need.
