This breed was/is originally a cattle herding dog. It is used in the place or orgin (Sao Miguel) more now, as a guard dog and protector of property and livestock. It is also used in the police dept. and military in Portugal as patrol dogs.
We are very excited about this repeat breeding we did 3 years ago. The dogs from that last litter had very dominant temperaments, natural aggression and were very serious. All dogs that I have remained in contact with are all excelling in either bite work, obedience, tracking, hunting and/or detection work.
The sire is Valent CGC, TT, CAL2, WAT3, is a large (26" @ withers, 90 lbs.) orange brindle male. He has been in numerous mock protection trials (bite suit) always placing in top three (even placing higher then dogs with KNVP PH1, & PSA, PDC) He has very strong drives and instincts and high energy for protection work and obedience. He very fast and athletic. His grips are full and his guards are intense. He has fantastic civil drive and is not equipment oriented. He has strong genetics and reproduce dogs with very full temperaments.
The dam is Dream Team's Azora (24" @ withers, 68 lbs.) She has a very dominant temperament and good natural aggression. she is very possessive of her prey items, good nervers and looks to please.
We only have 1 litter of Fila Sao Miguels about every two years. Due to the fact these dogs are very primitive and need a job.
Both parents have prelim good hips and clear elbows. This breed has no known health problems.
Most of these pups are going to be good for personal protection, protection sports, obedience, tracking and agility. This line tends to produce very aggressive dogs and some of the males can even be handler aggressive.
