Default Improving bite pressure

I am quite new to assailant work, but know that experience is the best school, and other assailants the best teachers :-), so I need some guidance on how to improve the bite of a dog I am training at the moment:

It is a male malinois mix breed. He is 6 months old and has now finished teething. I am busy training this dog on the bite sausage. This pup does not bite very deep, and his bite is also very soft. He also tends to bite for a moment and then spit out the sausage immediately after.

Since I do not have a lot of experience, and no one to ask these questions to, I would appreciate any input! I want to know how I go about improving drive in this dog. Could it perhaps be that the dog is tired by the end of obedience training and thus we are stuggling with a tired dog. Could it be that I am putting too much pressure on this young dog? What are the techniques for improving bite pressure? Do I let the pup win more regularly or do I need to have him fight a bit more before he wins the sausage?

Any tips and advice is absolutely welcome!
